Industry experts don't know exactly how long EV batteries last, but reports show confidence that they last well beyond the 100,000 miles the manufacturer warranty provides protection, with some EVs reporting over 200,000 miles and still going strong. EV batteries experience degradation, on average, about 1.8 percent each year, but factors such as extreme temperatures and charging habits influence long-term battery health.
EV owners can help their vehicle's battery health by protecting it from extreme hot or cold temperatures and avoiding DC fast-charging as much as possible (no more than two sessions per day). Additionally, you should maintain a charge level of between 15 and 85 percent without letting the battery drain completely and avoid frequently charging to 100 percent.
Yes, excessive use of DC Fast Chargers (more than twice daily) can be rough on the battery. We recommend using Level I or Level II as the primary charging method because it is much gentler on the battery.
No, jump-starting an EV is not recommended. Additionally, you should never jump-start another vehicle with an EV. Please check the owner's manual for more information about your vehicle's unique limits. If you ever run out of charge on the road, Toyota provides 24/7 roadside assistance for the duration of the battery warranty period.
